15th March: Redloh Cup:
Denny Cox rode to victory in the inaugural Redloh Cup for junior speedway.
The Central Coast Junior Motorcycle Club approached the Holder family late
last year after Chris Holder won the SGP world championship. The club wanted
to honour his achievement and celebrate the fact that Chris started his
speedway in the junior ranks at the club. And so the Redloh Cup was
conceived with the Holders' support.
The extended Holder family including Chris, his partner and young son Max
were in attendance. Chris was introduced to each rider and presented
trophies at the end of the day.
Twelve riders raced and a number of them showed improvement on previous
form. Cox did not have the easy run he might have enjoyed last year with
Jimmy Jones, Karl Lawler and Matt Gilmore sharing in the heat wins. Jones
and Gilmore had victories over Cox.
The A Final consisted of Cox, Gilmore, Christian Hojberg and Lawler who
advanced from the B Final. From the start Cox made the best start and was
never seriously challenged. Gilmore came from a slow start to pass Lawler
for second while Hojberg slipped to the tail of the field. If Gilmore had
been able to get by Lawler sooner he may have been able to try for the lead
but by the time he caught up it was too late.
Cox scored a significant win in what the club is confident will become a
prestigious award for junior speedway.
